Often daunting and always complex, a river or stream restoration project is a multi-disciplinary effort successfully accomplished when completed within a reach or watershed context. Conducting a comprehensive restoration effort typically incorporates techniques, methods, and processes based on a study of the basin history and a development of theoretical frameworks for each river restoration action category. Herrera engineers work with our scientists to assess, plan, integrate, design, construct, and monitor river restoration from the office and in the field to provide state-of-the-art river restoration.
Herrera's river and coastal team is devoted to restoring rivers and coastal environments for future generations. Through our successful projects, we demonstrate that habitat restoration and infrastructure and property protection are fully compatible project goals.

Intense industrial, commercial and residential development has spurred economic growth in many parts of the United States, but has also resulted in negative impacts to many aquatic ecosystems. Even slight physical or chemical changes to an aquatic ecosystem can have a domino effect on native fish and wildlife communities. Such impacts can be balanced or reversed by projects to improve, restore and conserve native habitats. HDR's ecosystem restoration group provides clients looking to restore eco-systems with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, ecologists, scientists, hydrologists, biologists, fluvial geomorphologists, soil scientists, meteorologists, and regulatory permitting specialists. HDR can help to successfully navigate the complexities of nearly any project by providing pragmatic, scientifically based solutions for protecting, restoring and enhancing fish and aquatic communities. www.hdrinc.com
